*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest forecast for the 2025 harvest of grains, cereals, legumes, and oilseeds, projecting a total harvest of 328.4m tonnes (t), which would be up 12.2% from 2024’s annual harvest. This latest projection is also up from the forecast of 327.6m
released in April. Just three crops are expected to account for over 90% of Brazil’s total grain harvest this year: soybeans (164.2m t), maize (128.2m t), and rice (11.9m t). In terms of regional variation, the central-western state of Mato Grosso is projected to be by far the largest grain producer. It is projected to contribute 30.8% of the total harvest. Following Mato Grosso, the other major producer states are projected to be Paraná (13.7%), Goiás (11.7%), and Rio Grande do Sul (10.1%); all these states are in the south or centre-west of the country. In a press release, the Ibge attributed the optimistic outlook for the 2025 grain harvest to better climate conditions compared to 2024.
