Rising data centre energy demand
Electricity consumption in the world’s data centres will double between now and 2030, according to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) which says that the growth will be concentrated in the US and China. The two superpowers will be responsible for around 80% of the growth in data centre energy demand, with the European Union also growing but still lagging in third place. The agency says that under its central forecast, data centre energy demand will rise from 415 terawatts hour (TWh) in 2024 to 945TWh in 2030, representing a 15% annual growth rate.
