*Mexico’s leading business lobby group, Confederación Patronal de la República Mexicana (Coparmex), has sent a delegation to Washington D.C. aimed at boosting ties between Mexico and the US, and positioning the Mexican business sector as a
“key actor in the revision of the USMCA [US-Mexico-Canada Agreement] trade accord ahead of 2026”. A statement released by Coparmex marking the visit, which took place from 5-7 May and was headed up by its president
Juan José Sierra Álvarez, called for “
institutional dialogue” as a basis for revising USMCA ahead of 2026. It highlighted “
concern” regarding the judicial elections that are taking place in Mexico next month, noting that “
any institutional weakening jeopardises investor confidence and juridical stability in the region”. During the visit, Coparmex delegates met with US government officials, national legislators, think tanks, civil society organisations, and international organisations.
