*Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras has released its production figures for oil and natural gas in the first quarter of this year, registering 2.77m barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). This marks a 5.4% increase from the 2.63m boepd produced in Q4 2024 but a slight decrease of 0.2% from the 2.78m boepd produced in Q1 2024. In a press release, Petrobras highlighted that several processing facilities began new operations in Q1 this year that could have contributed to the quarterly rise in production. On 15 February the new ‘Almirante Tamandaré’ floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO), began oil and natural gas production in the Búzios oil field of the Santos Basin. The Almirante Tamandaré has a total production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and 12m cubic metres (m
3/d) of natural gas per day. On 12 February another production unit in the Santos Basin, the ‘Marechal Duque de Caxias’ FPSO in the Mero oil field, began operations in its new oil well, bringing the FPSO’s production capacity up to 95,000 bpd.
