Yamandú Orsi has announced that he has accepted the resignation of his housing minister,
Cecilia Cairo. Cairo resigned following revelations in the local press that she had failed to gain authorisation for construction work on her home and had not updated its real estate taxes for over two decades. In a brief post on social media, Orsi confirmed that Cairo had tendered her resignation and that he had accepted it.
“Issue resolved,” he wrote. This came after Cairo issued a statement on social media on 18 April in which she said she had presented her resignation and thanked Orsi for the
“trust and affection he has given me”. In the statement, Cairo – who served as a federal deputy for Orsi’s Movimiento de Participación Popular (MPP), a member of the now-ruling left-wing Frente Amplio (FA) coalition from 2020-2025 – stated that
“we are not in this fight for [political] positions. All my life I considered myself a militant of a cause that I embrace and love.” The resignation comes just under two months after
Orsi took office on 1 March. According to the local press,
Tamara Paseyro, who had been serving as the national director of social and urban integration, will take over as the new housing minister.
