In brief: Industrial production up in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported a 0.4% year-on-year increase in industrial activity in February 2025. In monthly terms, Inegi’s index of industrial activity (Imai) increased by 2.5% as compared to January 2025. This follows monthly and yearly drops in the Imai in both January and December. The monthly increase in February was driven by a 2.9% rise in manufacturing while construction was up by 2.8% and mining by 0.8%. Utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) was down 0.4% in monthly terms. In year-on-year terms, manufacturing was up 1.8% and construction by 0.5%, while mining dropped by 6.3% and utilities dropped by 1.1%.
