*The subcommission for constitutional accusations in Peru’s congress has voted to archive an impeachment motion against President
Dina Boluarte which related to the
‘Rolexgate’ corruption allegations, which saw Boluarte accused in the local media of receiving bribes from
Wilfredo Oscorima, the governor of Ayacucho region, in return for awarding Ayacucho a greater share of funds from the national budget. With ten votes in favour, six against, and two abstentions, the subcommission approved its final report recommending that the impeachment motion be archived. Boluarte remains under investigation by prosecutors in relation to Rolexgate and
numerous other alleged crimes, but retains presidential immunity until at least April 2026, when general elections are due.
