In brief: Ecuador receives record remittances in 2024

*Ecuador’s central bank (BCE) has announced that the country received a record US$6.54bn in remittances in 2024. This was up from US$5.45bn in 2023 and US$4.74bn in 2022. In the fourth quarter of 2024, remittances totalled US$1.79bn, up from US$1.75bn in the previous quarter and US$1.50bn in the fourth quarter of 2023. The US was the largest source of remittances in 2024, accounting for US$4.80bn, followed by Spain (US$1.02bn), Italy (US$163.2m), and the UK (US$99.5m).
