BOLIVIA: Morales launches new party as MAS moves on

Former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) has formalised his divorce from Bolivia’s ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS), which he led from 1997-2024. On 31 March Morales’ allies announced the launch of a new party, named Evo Pueblo – although Morales has not renounced his alliance with the small left-wing outfit Frente para la Victoria (FPV), which he declared in February would be his ticket to a presidential comeback despite currently being barred from seeking re-election due to term limits [WR-25-08].
