*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for industrial production in February, which showed a slight monthly slump of 0.1%. This is the fifth consecutive month that Brazil’s industrial production has registered a monthly decrease or remained unchanged from the previous month. However, compared with February 2024, the latest monthly figures show a 1.5% rise in production, and the accumulated production level in the 12 months until February 2025 was up 2.6% compared with the preceding 12-month period. In a press release, the Ibge suggested that the lack of dynamism in recent months is linked to factors such as lower consumer confidence, high interest rates, and concerns over inflation. In February this year, 14 of the 25 industrial activities measured by the Ibge posted a monthly decline in production. Of these 14 categories, the greatest monthly drops were seen in pharmaceutical products (-12.3%) and wood products (-8.6%).
