In brief: Bolivia begins transporting Argentine gas to Brazil

*The president of Bolivia’s state hydrocarbons company, Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), Armin Dorgathen, has said that Bolivia will earn up to US$200m per year by transporting Argentine natural gas to Brazil via Bolivian pipelines. Argentina stopped importing Bolivian gas in September 2024 due to increased domestic hydrocarbon production in Argentina and Bolivian difficulties meeting export quotas. Bolivia has sought to retain some income from Argentina by offering the use of its pipelines for Argentine exports. The first such gas shipment began on 1 April, with 4.5m cubic metres of Argentine natural gas transported through YPFB’s pipelines to Brazil, in collaboration with the French energy firm TotalEnergies and Brazil’s Grupo Matrix Energia.
