Suriname’s political parties submitted their final lists of candidates to the Onafhankelijk Kiesbureau (OKB) independent electoral council by the deadline of 25 March, which is two months before the general election. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi announced on 17 March that he would be on the list of candidates for the ruling Vooruitstrevende Hervormingspartij (VHP) party and would seek re-election on 25 May.
