*Mexico’s Economy Minister
Marcelo Ebrard has announced that he is travelling to the US today (26 March) to continue economic and trade negotiations with officials of President
Donald Trump’s administration. The trip comes as the new deadline for 25% US tariffs on Mexican imports
approaches on 2 April.
“We are in the complex issue of what will be the future of the arrangement, not political, but economic with the United States,” said Ebrard during an event to award the official ‘Hecho en México’ (Made in Mexico) status to Taruk, an electric bus made by Mexican vehicle manufacturer Megaflux.
“Mexico exports more than one million vehicles to the United States and today the discussion is what the future of this model will be,” said Ebrard, questioning why Mexico did not produce more of its own vehicles. The Taruk bus, whose name means ‘roadrunner’ in the Yaqui language, is the first 100% Mexican electric bus and is the result of a collaboration between Megaflux, Mexican bus and truck manufacturer Dina, and the ministry of science, humanities, technology, and innovation (Secihti).
