In brief: Mexico’s Sheinbaum unveils new investment

*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced an investment of US$3.7bn from local infrastructure development firm Fermaca Dreams for the creation of two projects in Durango state. In a press conference, Sheinbaum announced that US$2.7bn would go towards the creation of Fermaca Digital City, a data centre with its own electricity generation, while the remaining US$1bn would be dedicated to Fermachem, a green fertiliser production plant. According to the government, the Fermaca Digital City project is expected to generate at least 1,900 direct and indirect jobs in the construction phase and a minimum of 100 permanent jobs. The Fermachem project is forecast to generate 3,000 direct and indirect jobs in the construction phase and 250 permanent jobs for highly qualified workers. Sheinbaum has continued to build on her relationship with Mexico’s business community, addressing entrepreneurs at the annual assembly of the business lobby Cámara de la Industria de la Transformación (Caintra) de Nuevo León in state capital Monterrey on 20 March. In her speech, Sheinbaum called on the business community to help strengthen Plan México, her government’s vision for economic development.
