Claudia Sheinbaum has inaugurated the Carrizal II water treatment plant in Tabasco state, which her government says will benefit some 400,000 residents by supplying them with quality water. Part of the national water plan, the project began in 2023 under former president
Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) and required an initial investment of M$1.198bn (US$60.15m). At a press conference, Sheinbaum stressed the need to modernise irrigation and called for federal, state, and municipal collaboration to ensure water access. She stated her government was continuing works started under López Obrador to bring water to places that were in short supply and to provide quality water to homes in places such as Tabasco, which she said have enough water but lack sufficient treatment of it. She also highlighted plans to make Tabasco a leading food producer, citing its fertile land, abundant water, and hardworking people.
