*Brazil’s ministry for development, industry, trade, and services (MDIC) has released its trade figures for the month of February, which showed a trade deficit of US$323.7m. This marks the first monthly trade deficit that Brazil has posted since January 2022. Monthly exports in February registered a total value of US$22.9bn, down 1.8% compared to the same month in 2024, while monthly imports totalled US$23.3bn, up 27.6% year-on-year. Extractive industries registered a significant yearly drop in exports, posting an export value of US$4.25bn, down 26.4%. The manufacturing sector posted a major rise in imports, with a monthly import value of US$21.6bn, up 31.0% year-on-year. Brazil’s exports to China, its top trade partner, totalled US$5.43bn in February this year, down 21.1% compared to February last year, while imports from China came to US$8.06bn, marking a yearly increase of 76.8%.
