A mass power outage affected 14 out of Chile’s 16 regions on 25 February, leaving some 8m homes without electricity and wreaking havoc on transport services, the mining sector, hospitals, and other important infrastructure. President Gabriel Boric delivered a sombre address at 10pm, as some power was gradually being restored. He characterised the situation as “intolerable” and laid the blame squarely on the private sector and one energy company, ISA InterChile, in particular.
