*Brazil’s labour ministry has released the latest figures from its national employment registry (Novo Caged), which show a net 137,303 jobs created in January, with 2.27m new hires and 2.13m job losses. This marked a turnaround from December 2024, when there was a net loss of 535,547 jobs resulting from 1.52m new hires and 2.06m dismissals. In the 12 months to January, an accumulated net total of 1.65m jobs were created, with 25.74m new hires and 24.09m job losses. The sector that saw the highest net job creation in January was industry (+70,428), followed by services (+45,165), construction (+38,373), and agriculture (35,754). In contrast, the retail sector saw net job losses of 52,417 in January.
