In brief: Colombia’s industrial production down in 2024

*Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has released the latest figures on industrial production, which fell by 0.3% year-on-year in December 2024. This marked the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year decline, following contractions of 2.0% in November, 0.6% in October, 4.5% in September, and 2.0% in August. During the whole of 2024, industrial production was down 1.7% compared with 2023. The drop in industrial production in December was driven by decreases in mining and quarrying (-7.6%) and the capture, treatment and distribution of water (-4.2%), while manufacturing was up by 1.9% and electricity and gas provision was up by 1.7%.
