Bolivia’s former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) will seek re-election in the August presidential elections under the banner of a new party, according to his ally Pedro Llanque, the disputed leader of the Confederación Sindical Única de Trabajadores Campesinos de Bolivia (CSUTCB) peasants’ union. For now, Morales remains barred from competing due to presidential term limits. However, if these are lifted by the new constitutional court (TC) then Morales is laying the groundwork for a fresh start outside the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS), which has been torn in two by the rivalry between Morales and President Luis Arce.
