In brief: Peru seeks infrastructure drive

*Peru’s investment promotion agency (Proinversión) has announced plans to promote 310 infrastructure projects through the ‘Works for Taxes’ scheme, seeking total investments of PEN8.32bn (US$2.23bn). These public-private infrastructure proposals are located in 24 regions, and are aimed at improving infrastructure and public services. Proinversión’s director, José Salardi, said that 29% of the investment portfolio is focused on education (PEN2.51bn), 25% on transport (PEN2.18bn), 13% on healthcare (PEN1.12bn), 12% on management (PEN1.04bn), and 5% on sanitation (PEN425m). Major projects include the Ivochote-Camisea highway in Cusco region, a new bridge linking the regions of Ayacucho and Cusco, and key road upgrades in Cusco, Huánuco, and Ayacucho. In 2024, a record of 126 projects worth PEN4.20bn were awarded under the ‘Works for Taxes’ scheme. Looking ahead, 54 projects worth PEN2.07bn are set for 2025, with Proinversión saying that this that this figure could double.
