ECUADOR: Noboa weathers criticism in scrappy debate

Ecuador’s 16 presidential candidates participated in a compulsory debate on 19 January. It was a disjointed affair with the number of contenders meaning that two separate debates were staged, one after the other with eight candidates apiece. It was not helped by the fact that the two clear frontrunners, President Daniel Noboa of Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN) and Luisa González of the left-wing opposition Revolución Ciudadana (RC), competed in separate debates.
