Latin American Regional Report: Brazil & Southern Cone begins with an analysis of the free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) regional trade bloc, which had been in the making for a quarter of a century. The deal still faces an uncertain future, but there is a lot that speaks in favour of getting it over the finish line. The economies in both regions are looking a bit lacklustre and could benefit from reducing tariffs and red tape and harmonising technical regulations and standards.
