Latin American Regional Report: Mexico by examining the government’s efforts to clamp down on the synthetic opioid fentanyl. Mexican authorities hailed the largest seizure of fentanyl in the country’s history on 3 December. The operation was well timed, coming just days after then US President-elect Donald Trump had threatened to impose heavy trade tariffs on Mexican imports if the government does not crack down on the flow of drugs, and particularly fentanyl, crossing the border.
