CHILE: Congress passes key security legislation

With crime ranking as the top public concern in surveys, the government led by President Gabriel Boric sought to advance a raft of security measures in 2024. In December, two of these bills – one to update the country’s anti-terrorism law and another to create a new ministry for public security – were approved by congress.
