BRAZIL: Authorities call for measures against police brutality

Public concern over accountability for Brazil’s law enforcement institutions has risen in the past few months, following incidents of police killings and excessive force that received considerable media exposure. Even the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, who previously downplayed the concerns over police abuses, admitted in December that measures such as body cameras were needed to reduce the risk of police brutality.
