Another low point for Bolivia’s counter-narcotics agency

The 12 December extradition to the US of Maximiliano Dávila, who headed Bolivia’s counter-narcotics agency (FELCN) in 2019, dealt yet another hammer blow to the organisation’s reputation. Dávila is the third former director of the FELCN to be accused or convicted of colluding with drug traffickers since 2022. His extradition is also an embarrassment for former president Evo Morales (2006-2019), under whom Dávila headed the FELCN. Morales has long claimed that the prosecution of Dávila is an attempt to harm him politically.
