CUBA-DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | Contrasting fortunes. A record 11m people visited the Dominican Republic in 2024, up from 10m in 2023, the tourism minister, David Collado, said on 29 December. Collado said that tourism contributes US$26bn to the country’s GDP, accounting for 20% of GDP, adding that the sector provided 949,000 direct and indirect jobs in 2024.
