*The CEO of Colombia’s national federation of coffee producers (FNC), Germán Bahamón Jaramillo, has announced new figures showing that Colombia’s coffee production closed 2024 at 13.99m bags (one sack = 60kg), which he said represented yearly growth of 24%, while in December alone production was up 47% on the same month in 2023. He said that coffee production in 2024 was worth Col$16trn (US$3.70bn) – which he described as a record figure. As regards coffee exports, Bahamón cites preliminary data showing these amounted to 12.3m bags in 2024, up 16% on the 10.5m in 2023. A May 2024 report by the US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Services notes that the pace of coffee production recovery in Colombia has been hindered by the El Niño weather phenomenon, which has resulted in drier conditions and led to increased rates of borer infestation.
