In brief: Brazil posts record number of tourists in 2024

*Brazil’s tourism ministry has released its annual figures for international tourism, registering a record 6.66m foreign tourists in 2024. This marks a 12.6% increase compared to 2023. The month of December saw 690,236 international visitors to Brazil, up 11.1% year-on-year. The states to receive the most tourists in 2024 were São Paulo (2.2m visitors), Rio de Janeiro (1.5m), Paraná (894,536), and Rio Grande do Sul (879,412). Argentinians accounted for the greatest share of international tourists to Brazil, representing 1.95m of visitors in 2024, followed by tourists from the US (696,512) and Chile (651,776). According to a government press release, the 2024/2025 summer holiday season (December-February) has already seen 7.48m international flights booked, up 19% from summer 2023/2024.
