*Haiti’s aviation authorities have announced that Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince will reopen today (11 December) according to local and international media reports. The airport has been closed for commercial flights since last month following attacks by gangs targeting aircraft from US-based airlines JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, and American Airlines. This led the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to announce on 12 November that it was banning civil aviation flights into Haiti for 30 days. The FAA has yet to confirm whether it will extend its ban. On 8 December the Miami Herald also reported that American Airlines would not be resuming its daily service out of Miami into Toussaint Louverture International Airport as of early February as initially planned. The Herald said it had been told by an American Airlines spokesperson that the carrier would “will evaluate a possible resumption in late 2025 of the only daily service out of Miami International Airport into Haiti by a major US airline.”
