*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures showing that the unemployment rate in the August-October rolling quarter was 8.6% – down from 8.9% in the same period in 2023, and from 8.7% in the immediately preceding July-September rolling quarter. In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment was down by 0.1 percentage points compared with the previous quarter. In year-on-year terms, the INE calculated that the number of people in work had increased by 2.2% in the August-October period. The drop in unemployment was mostly driven by increased employment in teaching (+9.5%), communications (+22.3%), and health activities (+7.3%).
