PERU: SL’s political arm dissolved
A Peruvian court has ordered the dissolution of the Movimiento por la Amnistía y Derechos Fundamentales (Movadef), the political wing of the Maoist guerrilla group Sendero Luminoso (SL). The court ruling, issued on 28 October, came after prosecutors argued that Movadef was a front for SL that raised revenue for terrorist activities. The same ruling also saw lengthy prison sentences handed to 35 people who had been accused of membership of a terrorist organisation due to their links to Movadef and SL.
