*Bolivia’s state lithium company, Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB), has signed a contract with the Chinese firm CBC Investments Limited for the production of lithium in the Uyuni salt flats. The contract sets out plans to build two lithium carbonate plans with a combined production output of 35,000 tonnes per year. President Luis Arce, who attended the signing of the contract, said that “Bolivia is negotiating with the biggest and most important companies, and this is a contract… of great importance for the country’s generation of investment and resources through the export of lithium carbonate”. The contract will now be sent to Bolivia’s legislative assembly for approval. Legislators still need to sign off on Bolivia’s other main international lithium contract, which was signed in September with Russia’s Uranium One Group and will see the construction of a lithium production plant with an annual production capacity of 14,000 tonnes.
