Introduction

Colombia’s military recaptured the small town of El Plateado on 12 October, ending a six-year period in which the town, in Argelia municipality, Cauca department, was not under the control of the state. The taking of El Plateado underlined President Gustavo Petro’s increasingly forceful strategy towards insurgent groups amid mounting setbacks in government-led peace negotiations, as we explore in this November 2024 edition of the Latin American Regional Report: Andean Group.
