*Haiti’s Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has strongly condemned the recent attacks by gangs targeting aircraft from US-based airlines JetBlue and Spirit Airlines which were struck by bullets while flying over the capital, Port-au-Prince. The attacks, which have temporarily shuttered the Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince – the second time it has been closed this year following gang attacks in late February, led the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to announce on 12 November that it was banning civil aviation flights into Haiti for 30 days. Yesterday The Bahamas’ tourism minister and deputy prime minister, Chester Cooper, also revealed that the country’s state airline Bahamasair had taken a similar decision citing safety concerns.
