In brief: Industrial production up in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released the report for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial activity grew 0.6% in monthly terms and did not change in yearly terms in September. This contrasts with a monthly decline of 0.5% and yearly decline of 0.3% in August. The monthly increase in September was driven by a 1% rise in industrial manufacturing and a 0.7% increase in construction. This compensated for the 1.3% fall in mining and the 1.1% contraction in utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas). Year-on-year, manufacturing increased 1.5% compared to September of last year while utilities rose 1.2%. This was offset by a 2.3% decline in construction alongside a 4.3% fall in mining in yearly terms.
