BRAZIL: Clear favourite emerges for lower chamber presidency

As of 30 October, three of the four largest parties in Brazil’s lower chamber of congress have endorsed the bid of federal deputy Hugo Motta, of the conservative Republicanos party, to assume the presidency of the chamber. On 5 November Motta continued his charm offensive in meetings with leading figures from several centrist parties. Assuming the parties that have declared support for him manage to align all of their deputies, Motta would reportedly have more than enough votes to secure the presidency of the lower chamber in February.
