*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest unemployment figures, showing a jobless rate of 6.4% for the third quarter of 2024. This is down from 6.9% in Q2 2024 and from 7.7% in Q3 2023. In a press release, the Ibge noted that this latest figure is the lowest unemployment rate on record since Q4 2013. The total number of unemployed people in Q3 this year came to 7m, the lowest figure registered since the rolling quarter ending in January 2015. The number of people in employment stood at a record 103m. The Ibge attributed the overall rise in the total employed population to a rise in employment in the industrial sector, which registered a quarterly increase of 3.2%.
