ECUADOR: Noboa sets risky deadline to resolve energy crisis

Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa said on 27 October that the country should have largely overcome its year-long energy crisis by December, as new energy plants begin to come online. The target is optimistic because the dry season will have begun in earnest by December, which will exacerbate the pressures on Ecuador’s struggling hydroelectric stations, and new energy plants will not fully compensate for the national grid’s electricity deficit.
