Bolivia’s former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) came within a whisker of being shot on 27 October as bullets tore through his car and wounded his driver. With Morales accusing President Luis Arce’s government of attempting to assassinate him, the country is being convulsed by increasingly violent protests. The government, however, has put forward a decidedly different version of events.
