Sedena, Semar heads unveiled
In the months running up to President Claudia Sheinbaum taking office on 1 October, she developed a methodical, formulaic approach to announcing the members of her incoming cabinet. Each week, typically on a Thursday, she would host a press conference to unveil her latest picks, with the incoming cabinet members in question at her side. For two significant positions, however, she bucked this trend, announcing her incoming defence and navy ministers via a press release. Sheinbaum announced these two roles on 6 September – some time after her other cabinet picks – suggesting a higher degree of deliberation and negotiation was involved.
