MEXICO: Sheinbaum presents security strategy

Mexico’s new public security minister, Omar García Harfuch, unveiled the national security strategy of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government on 8 October. Scrutiny of Sheinbaum’s security strategy will remain high as insecurity is widely seen as one of the main challenges facing the new administration, which took office on 1 October. Indeed, the first week of Sheinbaum’s presidency has already seen one major security incident, with the brutal murder of the newly inaugurated mayor of Guerrero state capital Chilpancingo, while violence continues in Sinaloa state due to infighting within a major drug trafficking organisation (DTO).
