CHILE: Corruption scandal hits top court and political establishment
A high-profile corruption case known as the ‘Caso Audios’ has shaken Chile’s top judicial and political circles. The case involves prominent lawyer Luis Hermosilla who allegedly helped secure the nomination of judge Ángela Vivanco to the supreme court using his ties to the previous right-of-centre government led by the late Sebastián Piñera (2010-2014, 2018-2022). The Caso Audios scandal has not only dealt a political blow to the right-wing opposition coalition Chile Vamos but also fuelled calls for anti-corruption reforms.
