In brief: Mining drives industrial production in Chile

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest industrial production figures which show that industrial production rose by 5.2% year-on-year in August 2024. The report indicates that the yearly increase was mainly due to the performance of the mining sector, which grew by 8.9% year-on-year, while production was also up in the manufacturing (+3.4%) and electricity, gas & water (+0.6%) sectors. In seasonally adjusted terms, the industrial production index (IPI) grew by 1.8% as compared to the previous month, with the mining index up by 3.1%, the manufacturing index by 1.2%, and the electricity, gas & water index up by 0.2%.
