BOLIVIA: Supporters of Arce and Morales face off in La Paz

The standoff between Bolivia’s President Luis Arce and former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) may be approaching a climax. Thousands of Morales supporters flooded into La Paz on 23 September at the end of their so-called ‘March to Save Bolivia’ which, despite Morales’ claims to the contrary, seems aimed at pressuring the electoral authorities to enable his candidacy in next year’s presidential election. Arce supporters amassed in the city centre after cabinet ministers accused Morales of planning a coup.
