In brief: Dominican Republic hails rise in tourism

*The Dominican Republic’s tourism minister, David Collado, has said that 7.78m tourists visited the country in the first eight months of 2024, up 10% on 2023, 38% on 2022 and 44% in 2019 – the year prior to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Collado also said that August registered 812,949 visitors, up 2% on 2023, 14% on 2022, and 45% on 2019. Collado projects that the Dominican Republic will receive some 11.5m tourists this year, surpassing last year’s record.
