In brief: Musk accepts Brazilian demands in bid to unblock X

*The social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has appointed a legal representative in Brazil in accordance with the demands of the supreme court (STF), which has ordered that X be blocked in Brazil until the platform complies with judicial orders on content moderation. The international and Brazilian press reported on 20 September that Rachel de Oliveira Conceição has been appointed as X’s legal representative in Brazil, and that the company has also paid outstanding fines and shut down user accounts that the STF had ordered to be closed on the grounds that they pose a threat to democracy. The STF released a statement on 21 September noting the announcement of De Oliveira’s appointment but said that it had not received the required documentation. The court gave X a five-day deadline to submit the documents.
