In brief: Industrial production up in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published the latest data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial production rose by 0.2% in monthly terms and 0.6% in yearly terms in July 2024. This compares to a monthly and yearly rise of 0.4% in June. The monthly result in July was driven by a 2.6% rise in construction and a 1.4% rise in mining, while manufacturing industries and utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) dropped by 0.8% and 0.9% respectively. In yearly terms, construction was up 4.4% and utilities increased by 2.7%. Mining was down 0.2% and manufacturing industries by 0.6%.
