ECUADOR: Environmentalists face long wait on Yasuní oil ban

Production was halted at one of the 247 oil wells in Ecuador’s Yasuní national park on 28 August, a year after a referendum in which voters backed a ban on drilling in the biodiversity hotspot. Switching off the remaining 246 oil wells will take substantially longer, with President Daniel Noboa’s government having been accused of foot-dragging over the issue.
